GSMA – Worldwide Association Of Mobile Operators

The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, uniting nearly 800 operators with more than 300 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as organisations in adjacent industry sectors.

As part of their Disaster Response Programme they also have an excellent page dealing with Refugee Connectivity.

There you can find some information about “refugees and smartphones” in general and many examples for projects dealing with this topic.

They also provide some highly interesting scientific studies like “The Importance of Mobile for Refugees” (PDF) or

a study about the use of mobile phones in a refugee camp in Tanzania, Africa (PDF)

Definitely worth reading it if you want to know more about the huge impact of mobile phones on refugees family reconnection, education, travel or mobile money!
